Andorran rider Xavi Cardelús will start 19th in the World Supersport Championship races at Portugal's Portimão circuit this weekend.
The Cerba Yamaha Racing Team pilot clocked a lap time of 1'44"779 during Friday qualifying, finishing more than two seconds behind the session's fastest rider, Turkish competitor Can Öncü. This marks Cardelús's second round in the championship after his debut in Australia, where he placed 16th in the first race and 14th in the second, leaving him 17th in the overall standings.
Races are scheduled for today at 15:00 and tomorrow at 16:00. Free practice began yesterday afternoon at 17:00.
Cardelús is aiming to rebound from his Australian results. "We're heading to Portimão with the goal of putting Australia behind us and fighting for the results we deserve," he said.
