Andorran Yamaha rider Xavi Cardelús secured 23rd place in both races at the fifth round of the Supersport World Championship on the Most circuit in the Czech Republic.
After a lacklustre superpole session on Saturday, Cardelús qualified 28th and started from the back of the grid for the opening race at 12:30pm local time. The Cerba Yamaha Racing rider gained five positions during the contest but finished outside the points. He highlighted his lap times in the first half, which aligned closely with the group battling for 12th. Recent adjustments to the Yamaha and a fresh setup showed promise, he said, describing the performance as the most consistent of the season to date. "The 23rd was the best we could manage today," Cardelús added.
In Sunday's race at 2:00pm, he again started from the 10th row of the grid and climbed five spots to 23rd, crossing the line six seconds behind 15th place and the final points position. His quickest lap of 1:35.255 placed 17th overall. Cardelús noted marked improvements in the bike's handling following configuration changes, marking one of his steadiest weekends.
"Today's race felt much stronger than yesterday's, even with the 23rd, because I was quicker and more comfortable until about eight laps from the end when my right arm tired out, much like last year," he explained. The fatigue hampered his pace late on, but he remained upbeat. "The outcome wouldn't have changed much. The key is feeling better and riding faster—we've made progress and I want to carry it forward at MotorLand, a track where I've always gone well. This weekend focused on refining the bike, and we succeeded."
The series moves on to MotorLand Aragón in Spain from May 29-31.
