Futsal Player Yuli Mina Medically Cleared After Head Injury Knocks Her Unconscious

Yuli Alexandra Mina, a Casa de Portugal futsal player, has been medically cleared after suffering a head injury that left her unconscious during a women's league match against FS La Massana.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening around 9pm at the Prada de Moles pitch in Encamp. In the first half, with the score at 0-0 in the 17th minute, Mina outpaced an opponent for the ball but collided heavily, falling awkwardly and striking her head on the turf. She remained unconscious for several moments, prompting concern from players and benches on both sides.

No ambulance or on-site medical services were available, complicating the response. The coach's partner, a nurse on the technical staff, provided initial assistance until emergency services arrived after a notable delay. Mina regained consciousness gradually and was taken to hospital for tests, where she received discharge around midnight after spending the night under observation.

Speaking to Altaveu, Mina said she is feeling better at home. "I'm a bit better now," she noted, adding that hospital tests cleared her. She recalled only fragments of the clash—"I collided with the girl and then don't remember much"—and mentioned lingering dizziness Thursday from the impact, adrenaline, and match stress, though her condition has improved. She thanked coaches and players from both teams for their support.

The referee, along with coaches from both sides, agreed to suspend the match amid the delay and widespread worry, including from La Massana. The federation will soon decide whether to reschedule and complete the fixture, part of the league's penultimate round.

Casa de Portugal coach Pepe Mengual and staff highlighted multiple shortcomings at Prada de Moles, including the lack of medical equipment and coverage. They called for Red Cross personnel or physiotherapists at federation venues to prevent graver incidents, reigniting debate over sports facility provisions.
