Mercedes Crashes into Streetlight in Andorra la Vella, Driver Flees

A minor traffic accident disrupted circulation briefly in central Andorra la Vella this morning after a Mercedes registered in the Principat collided with a streetlight on Carrer Prat de la Creu.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. in the direction toward Spain, near the Unsquare shopping centre. Police attended the scene along with Andorra la Vella traffic agents to manage the disruption, which caused no full road closures but required drivers to proceed with caution.

A crane was called to remove the vehicle, which sustained significant material damage including to its front right wheel and likely the steering. The operation was completed swiftly, avoiding major delays.

However, accounts differ on what police found upon arrival. Altaveu reported officers managing the damaged Mercedes on site until its removal. In contrast, Diari d'Andorra stated that by the time agents arrived shortly before 9:45 a.m., the vehicle had already been towed away—possibly by a private crane—leaving only debris from the broken streetlight. The report cited a witness who alerted authorities and shared photos of the crane at work under police presence.

Police are now searching for the driver and vehicle, whose whereabouts remain unclear according to their statement. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the crash is under investigation. Further details are pending.
