A fatal head-on collision on the C-14 highway near Artesa de Segre claimed the life of a 38-year-old man from Viladecans on Sunday evening, with four others injured, including the driver of an Andorran-registered Porsche Cayenne and three occupants of a Spanish-plated Toyota van.

The crash occurred at kilometre 102 in the direction of Lleida, in the municipality of Artesa de Segre in La Noguera region. Emergency services received the alert at 6:28pm, prompting a major response that included four Mossos d'Esquadra patrols, ten fire crews from Bombers de la Generalitat who performed extrication tasks, and seven Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) units. All four injured parties were taken to Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida.

The Spanish vehicle's driver died at the scene. The Andorran Porsche Cayenne carried a lone driver who sustained serious injuries and was initially listed in critical condition. The Toyota van had four occupants, including two minors; two suffered severe injuries while the children had less serious ones.

Hospital sources later reported favourable progress for the Andorran driver and one minor, both expected for discharge on Monday. Police continue to investigate the causes of the frontal impact.

The incident fully closed the C-14 in both directions at Artesa de Segre for several hours, with traffic diverted through the town centre during vehicle removal, roadside cleanup, and emergency operations. This marks the fifth road fatality in Catalonia since the start of the year, according to provisional Servei Català de Trànsit figures.
