Andorra la Vella Makes Carrer Castell de Sant Vicenç One-Way to Ease School Traffic Amid Car Park Closure

Andorra la Vella council has implemented a one-way southbound restriction on Carrer Castell de Sant Vicenç to enhance traffic flow during school drop-off and pick-up times at Escola Janer, while addressing the impact of the Cedre car park's imminent closure.

The changes follow the property owners' decision to rescind the lease and pursue a new construction project on the site, with the car park set to shut down by the end of March. Traffic department officials studied local patterns and introduced measures to optimise road space and improve vehicle-pedestrian interactions.

Key updates include the one-way conversion, which frees up carriageway space for smoother circulation. Nearby, a short-stay commercial parking area now offers 30-minute slots for eight vehicles, primarily for parents handling quick school runs at Escola Janer. At the street's northern end, five green-zone resident spaces have been added to partially replace lost Cedre parking.

Traffic and Parking Councillor Xavier Surana stated the initiative addresses "a real need in the neighbourhood" and eases daily commutes, particularly for families. He noted it will reduce peak-hour congestion and boost road safety in this high-activity school and residential zone.

The council anticipates the adjustments will make fuller use of the street's width, streamline parking and support the area's intense routines, with changes taking effect immediately for a seamless shift.
