Police in Andorra detained a 58-year-old Dutch tourist over the weekend in Sant Julià de Lòria on suspicion of reckless driving and causing serious injuries through negligence after a collision on the CG-1.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at kilometre 8.100 of the road. The man, driving a van towards the Riu Runer border crossing, made an illegal U-turn by turning left against signage. A 26-year-old local resident on a motorcycle, travelling downhill, struck the vehicle and sustained severe traumatic injuries, including multiple fractures to his limbs. Emergency services treated him at the scene before transferring him to hospital. Authorities noted the driver's grave imprudence but stated his life was not at immediate risk.
The Batllia processed the man for offences against public safety due to reckless driving and against physical integrity for the injuries. He was released after confirming his vehicle was insured, with the policy covering the motorcyclist's damages and expenses. Officials also informed him that his driving licence is suspended in Andorra.
In a separate crash on Sunday night at kilometre 7.400 of the CG-2 in Encamp, police arrested a 48-year-old man with a blood alcohol level of 1.62g/l. Driving uphill, he lost control of his car during heavy rain and poor visibility near Torrent Pregó, veered off the road and hit a guardrail. His passenger was injured, leading to additional charges against him for offences against physical integrity. The car blocked the road, prompting a second vehicle to stop and assist. A third car then rear-ended the stationary vehicle, causing a secondary collision with only material damage.
Over recent days, police reported four more arrests for driving under the influence: a 49-year-old female tourist at 1.07g/l, a 25-year-old man at 2.62g/l, a 38-year-old at 1.34g/l, and a 45-year-old at 2.29g/l. Two men, aged 53 and 39, were detained for driving with suspended licences. On Saturday early morning in Andorra la Vella, a 35-year-old man was arrested with 0.6g of cocaine. Another 58-year-old man faced arrest that Saturday night after stopping briefly during a routine check, then fleeing at high speed; his alcohol level measured 0.97g/l, with added charges for disobeying police.
