Suzuki Ignis Crashes into Tree in Andorra la Vella, Driver Hospitalized; Separate Bollard Damage Reported

A Suzuki Ignis crashed into a tree on a pavement along Avinguda Príncep Benlloch in Andorra la Vella late Monday evening, causing extensive damage but initially reported as injury-free. However, police have since confirmed the young driver, the vehicle's sole occupant, complained of chest pain and was taken to hospital.

The incident occurred just after 10pm. The driver, who passed a breathalyser test, told officers he had been moving at low speed. Police investigators will establish the precise cause after the car mounted the kerb and struck the tree. No pedestrians were hit, despite the close proximity.

Emergency services responded promptly, including two police patrols, medical teams, Andorra la Vella traffic agents, and firefighters. The crash damaged the vehicle severely, along with the tree—which firefighters felled to avert further risk—a streetlight, the kerb, and spilled fluids that teams cleared from the pavement and road. The spectacle drew onlookers.

The vehicle's insurer is handling repairs, with no other consequences noted at the time.

Separately, Escaldes-Engordany council plans to file a complaint against a different vehicle that damaged three bollards and a streetlight on Avinguda Fiter i Rossell near Falgueró on Sunday afternoon around 2-4pm. Municipal technicians are finalising a damage assessment to submit to police, who can then access clear footage from overhead mobility cameras. The car, carrying multiple occupants, crushed the bollards, hit the lamppost base, shed parts, and continued downhill. Despite coordination between Escaldes and Andorra la Vella traffic agents and police, the vehicle was not located on site. Authorities have leads to identify it and will pursue payment for repairs, potentially through legal channels if needed. The driver's condition, including possible alcohol influence, remains unconfirmed.
