Andorra's CG-3 Sees 21% Drop in Peak-Hour Travel Times After Three-Lane Upgrade

The State Secretariat for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility has reported initial positive results from the new three-lane configuration on the CG-3 stretch between the Dama de Gel roundabout and Kilometre Zero.

In the first few weeks after implementation, peak-hour travel times have dropped by 21 per cent, enhancing traffic flow on one of Andorra's busiest road sections. Officials noted in a social media post that while a fuller assessment will take more time, early data suggest the changes are reducing congestion and improving overall mobility efficiency.

The setup began operating in early May, aimed at easing backups at the Dama de Gel and Kilometre Zero roundabouts. It allows for better vehicle absorption, helping to clear main road traffic. The work created three lanes from the Kilometre Zero roundabout to the entrance of Carrer de Na Maria Pla, while preserving three lanes from the Dama de Gel roundabout to that same point.

To further boost traffic movement, all left turns have been reorganised, loading and unloading zones removed—leaving just a small spot next to the communal bus stop—and the national bus stop relocated to Carrer de Na Maria Pla. The area now has a 30 km/h speed limit to improve safety.
