10-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured in Car Crash at Andorra Pedestrian Crossing

A 10-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car driven by a 30-year-old local woman at a pedestrian crossing in Incles and was airlifted to Barcelona's Hospital Sant Joan de Déu.

Police have detained the driver on suspicion of causing injury through negligence. The woman, who tested negative for alcohol and drugs, was initially taken to hospital after the crash before being transferred to police custody. Authorities continue to investigate the exact causes of the collision, which occurred around 7:55am on Monday at kilometre 15.850 of the CG-2 highway, in the Canaro area of Canillo parish near a speed camera and residential complex.

Emergency responders, including Canillo firefighters and SUM medical teams, attended the boy at the scene. Firefighters received the alert five minutes before 8am and provided initial care alongside an ambulance crew. The child was stabilised on site before helicopter evacuation to Nostra Senyora de Meritxell hospital, arriving shortly before 9am. Hospital staff assessed his severe condition and arranged the onward flight to Barcelona for specialist treatment.

The response closed the road in both directions, creating queues from El Tarter toward France and from Soldeu toward central Andorra. Mobility officials reported full traffic restoration shortly before 9am.
