Driver's Medical Episode Causes Crash Through Barriers Near Andorra's Valira River

A 51-year-old man suffered a health episode while driving on Andorra's CG-2 road near Ràdio Andorra in Encamp, causing his car to veer off, crash through barriers and slide down an embankment toward the Valira river.

Police were alerted to the incident at 13:24 on Thursday. The Andorra-registered Mazda3 had just passed a roundabout before the Ràdio Andorra tunnel on the old CG-2 stretch. Instead of entering the tunnel, it continued straight onto a side road near Andorra Turisme facilities, where other vehicles were parked. The car broke through safety barriers, dragged a parked motorcycle to the ground and came to rest near the riverbank without entering the water. The motorcycle, which belonged to a local services worker, sustained significant damage.

The driver climbed out of the vehicle on his own and initially declined medical help, insisting he was uninjured. Firefighters, paramedics and Encamp traffic police assessed him at the scene before ambulance staff took him to hospital. The transfer was not due to injuries from the crash but to investigate the medical issue—possibly an epileptic seizure or similar—that led to him losing control. Traffic on the secondary road faced only minor disruptions as responders managed the situation.

A crane later removed the car from its position beside the riverbed. The crash resulted in material damage but no serious injuries, with authorities stressing the driver's health problem as the key factor.

Separately, police found damage to the motorcycle and are probing whether it involved a hit-and-run by another party, though no link has been confirmed to the main accident. Encamp traffic agents continue to investigate both matters.
