Concrete Detaches from Andorra Car Park Ramp, Closing Upper Entrance

Authorities in Andorra la Vella have closed the upper entrance to the Centre Ciutat and Vinyes car parks from Plaça Bartomeu Rebés Duran indefinitely after a concrete panel detached from the ramp ceiling on Wednesday evening. No reopening date has been set pending technical reports on the full extent of damage.

Parish council sources confirmed the incident stemmed from rusted metal sheets installed years earlier to block water infiltration. Over time, the corrosion spread to the concrete reinforcements, causing the panel to fail. Officials ruled out any connection to ongoing plaza renovation works or the nearby FEDA transformer station project.

Technicians inspected the ceiling yesterday morning and began remediation on the affected section while probing other areas for damage. Diagnostic work is expected to continue until mid-next week, potentially requiring five or six additional days of closure, according to council estimates. Barriers and a sign reading "Accés aparcament tancat" remain in place.

Construction workers on site suggested recent heavy rains may have accelerated the deterioration, though officials await detailed analysis to confirm causes.

Vehicle access to both car parks is unaffected via the alternative route on Carrer Prat de la Creu. No injuries occurred.

In related criticism, opposition councillor David Astrié took to social media yesterday to question the parish council's public works management. He highlighted issues including limited greenery and leaks at Plaça del Poble, early defects on the recently completed Riu promenade, delays at Plaça Rebés Duran, the car park ramp incident, and deteriorating pavements now needing over €1 million in repairs. Astrié called for better planning, execution, and maintenance of infrastructure.
