Andorra la Vella police are intensifying checks on vehicles producing excessive noise across the country's roads. Starting Monday, 28 September, a dedicated road safety campaign will run until 11 October, emphasising motorcycles and passenger cars with unauthorised exhaust modifications.
Officers will carry out inspections day and night on urban and interurban routes, building on routine surveillance to detect and penalise violations that disturb residents. The focus includes vehicles emitting noise, exhaust gases or other pollutants beyond legal thresholds, as well as unnecessary accelerations or forced engine use that generate disturbances.
A key priority will be exhaust systems: police will target any that differ from the original without documentation in the vehicle's circulation permit, or those that are free-flowing, incomplete, worn or mismatched to manufacturer standards.
Authorities have identified recurring problems at multiple locations on the road network and are responding to citizen complaints. They are coordinating with traffic services in Andorra's parishes to strengthen enforcement.
Residents can help by sending video footage of evident offences to police, which the Road Safety Unit will review to determine appropriate action.
