Andorra Orders Insurers to Submit Vehicle Policy Data for New Digital Portal
The Andorran Financial Authority mandates insurers to provide policy details on registered vehicles ahead of launching a digital portal for real-time coverage verification. This ensures compliance with mandatory insurance under the Road Traffic Code.
Key Points
- AFA requires details of active motor policies as of June 30, 2026, for registry cross-check.
- Insurers submit via 'Base de dades de vehicles assegurats' by September 9.
- Data includes plate, make, type, and coverage start date.
- Portal will allow instant verification of compulsory third-party liability insurance.
The Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) has asked all authorised insurers offering motor vehicle third-party liability coverage to submit details of policies active as of 30 June 2026, enabling a cross-check against the government's vehicle registry.
This step precedes the launch of a new digital insurance portal, where users can instantly verify if a vehicle with an Andorran plate holds valid compulsory coverage. Insurers must supply data via a dedicated virtual office called "Base de dades de vehicles assegurats", including each vehicle's standard plate number, any personalised plate, make, type, and the start date of the coverage period in effect on that date. The deadline for submissions is 9 September.
The AFA described the process in a statement, stressing the importance of confirming insurance for every registered vehicle before the platform activates. It supports wider efforts to create an updated vehicle registry and streamline checks on mandatory policies.
Under article 98 of Law 12/2021—the Road Traffic Code approved on 13 May 2021—all Andorran-registered vehicles, irrespective of class, must carry insurance from a licensed local provider.
