La Massana Launches €888K Renovation of Camí de l’Església for Better Accessibility

La Massana parish council has launched renovation works on Camí de l’Església in the parish’s historic core, with a budget of 888,409.27 euros.

The initiative focuses on improving accessibility and creating safer, more comfortable routes to the schools and nursery. Contractors are installing new cobblestone paving based on the model from Arinsal’s old town, which has held up well against cold weather. A key element is a new elevator connecting Carrer Josep Rossell to Parc de l’Anita, right in front of the nursery, addressing needs of those with strollers or mobility issues. The project also includes upgrades to lighting and the water network.

Works councillor Kevin Poulet said the council wants to make the parish’s old village centres more attractive and pedestrian-friendly. It plans gradual interventions using shared standards for materials, such as weather-resistant stone, while highlighting each village’s distinct features.

This effort aligns with ongoing council work to refresh La Massana’s historic areas, bolster their character, and enhance public spaces, services, and access. The works are set to last 16 weeks.

Council officials acknowledge likely disruptions in the months ahead and say they will work to keep them to a minimum.
