Andorra to Launch L4B Bus Line Between Encamp and El Pas de la Casa

The new L4B route will run every 30 minutes and combine with the L4 line to offer a bus every 15 minutes between the two Encamp localities, starting Monday, November 2.

Key Points

  • The L4B line will run every 30 minutes and be coordinated with the existing L4 service.
  • Combined, the two routes will provide a bus every 15 minutes between Encamp and El Pas de la Casa.
  • The L5 line will extend afternoon peak service to up to five buses per hour for winter demand.
  • Night services to the Oriente valley will be rescheduled, with more journeys reaching El Pas de la Casa.

The Andorran government will roll out a new configuration of the national public transport network from Monday, November 2, introducing an additional bus line between Encamp and El Pas de la Casa.

The new service, designated L4B, will run every 30 minutes and will be coordinated with the existing L4 line. Together, the two routes will provide a combined frequency of one bus every 15 minutes between the two Encamp localities—El Pas de la Casa being a settlement within Encamp parish. According to the government, this marks the first time users will have a combined 15-minute service along that corridor.

Announcing the plan, Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility David Forné said the new network configuration represents a step forward for connectivity in the Oriente valley. He said the combined frequency increases the network's capacity, reduces waiting times and makes travel easier for both residents and visitors.

The government said the change responds to rising demand in recent years, particularly during the winter months, and offers a more flexible service with greater capacity to absorb traffic between Encamp, Canillo and El Pas de la Casa.

Other parts of the network will also be adjusted. The L5 line will extend its service during afternoon peak hours, with up to five buses per hour, to meet higher winter demand. Night services serving the Oriente valley will be rescheduled: roughly half of the journeys on the eve of public holidays will extend their route to El Pas de la Casa, while on working days all journeys will reach the border settlement.

The government added that service reinforcements introduced in recent seasons and shown to be effective in handling demand peaks will be consolidated into the regular offering. Forné said the winter improvements go beyond the usual seasonal adjustments and reflect continued planning to make public transport more efficient, reliable and attractive.

The executive said it remains committed to developing a more efficient and accessible public transport network, and that further improvements for the central valley are being prepared, to be deployed progressively over the coming months with the addition of new vehicles to the fleet.
