Coopalsa, the operator of Andorra's national bus lines, has described passenger complaints about drivers' poor practices behind the wheel as "rare and very sporadic."
The company issued the statement in response to concerns raised by users of the L4 line, which runs between Andorra la Vella and Pas de la Casa. Riders have reported witnessing reckless behaviour, including drivers using mobile phones while the vehicle is in motion. One video shared with media showed a driver holding the phone in one hand to record videos or take photos of the snowy landscape outside, while steering with the other. Passengers described the conduct as alarming, especially given the challenging road conditions, and said it was not an isolated incident. "It scares us," some told reporters recently, adding that they felt good drivers were being replaced by those with bad habits.
Coopalsa emphasised that it addresses any reported or observed improper behaviour promptly. "Whenever a complaint is received or anomalous conduct is detected during service, it is discussed with the driver," the company said. If misconduct is confirmed, a file is opened. Repeated dangerous behaviour can lead to sanctions, and in serious cases, dismissal.
The firm noted that such complaints reaching its offices are infrequent. It also pointed out that policing road safety falls to the authorities. Regarding the specific video incident, Coopalsa declined to comment, calling it an internal matter.
Passengers involved said they had previously contacted the company about similar issues but received no response or follow-up.
