Key Points

  • Andorra la Vella partners with mobility officials on parish-wide bike lane network, finalizing plan by mid-year.
  • Initial focus on Prada Motxilla area to link paths for safer family cycling and commuting.
  • Phased rollout without fixed deadlines, part of green corridor with trees and rest areas.
  • Current paths are disconnected, limiting sustainable mobility options.

Andorra la Vella's local government is working with national mobility officials to finalise a parish-wide bike lane plan by the first half of this year, focusing initially on the Prada Motxilla area.

Cònsol Major Sergi González outlined the project during recent statements, describing its joint development with State Secretary for Mobility David Forné and the team preparing the communal urban planning scheme. A key technical meeting occurred about two weeks ago to advance the full network layout. "I believe we can draw and define the route this semester," González said.

The initiative aims to create a continuous urban cycling circuit by linking scattered segments, promoting safer travel for families and daily commuters. Current paths often fail to connect, limiting sustainable mobility options. Early efforts target Prada Motxilla—also referred to as Prada Moxilla—where a new bike lane will repurpose existing pavement with fresh signage. This forms part of a broader "green corridor" vision presented in September 2024, featuring native tree plantings, urban furniture, rest areas, improved accessibility, and links to areas like the river promenade.

González stressed a phased rollout without fixed deadlines. He dismissed 2027 as a completion target, calling it "too premature," and noted the network's total length remains undefined during this study phase. "We will set action phases to make it happen," he added.
