A driver was injured Saturday evening after his car left the road and plunged several metres off the first bend of the Aixirivall road while travelling uphill from Sant Julià de Lòria. Police received the alert at about 21:20.
Emergency crews — including the Mountain Rescue Group (GRM), firefighters, several police units, traffic officers and an ambulance from the Medical Emergency Service (SUM) — cordoned off the area and attended the scene. Rescuers found the lone occupant alive, stabilised and immobilised him on site.
A helicopter was mobilised to support the rescue, and the driver was urgently airlifted to Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell. Initial reports indicate his injuries were not considered immediately life‑threatening.
The crash happened at a stretch of road where a similar serious accident occurred two years ago, a fact that has raised concern among local residents. Cerni Cairat, the cònsol major of Sant Julià de Lòria, visited the scene to follow the rescue operation and receive updates on the victim’s condition.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
