Motorcyclist Injured in Head-On Crash on Andorra's CG-1, Causing One-Hour Closure

A motorcyclist sustained minor injuries after a head-on collision with a car on Avinguda Salou in Santa Coloma on Sunday afternoon, prompting a one-hour closure of the CG-1 between the Comella and Prat Salit roundabouts.

The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. near the Viena restaurant, a busy stretch for outbound traffic toward the border. Police reported that the 20-year-old rider of an Andorran-plated motorcycle, traveling downhill, entered the central lane—then designated for uphill traffic—to overtake another vehicle. He collided frontally with an oncoming Andorran-plated car.

Emergency services, including police, firefighters, traffic agents, and a SUM ambulance, responded promptly. The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for tests, where he was later found stable with a minor pelvic fracture. No other injuries were reported, though the car sustained significant material damage.

The crash caused major disruptions, with queues forming in both directions. Authorities closed the road segment to allow responders to treat the injured, clear debris, and remove vehicles, forcing downhill drivers to turn around and reroute via Avinguda Enclar and Avinguda Santa Coloma. Traffic normalized after about an hour.
