Parc Central car park remodelled with wider bays and new layout, reopening this weekend
Andorra la Vella’s outdoor lot is being repainted and reorganised to improve manoeuvrability and circulation, with phased reopening expected this.
Key Points
- Progressive reopening expected this weekend after repainting and reorganisation started Tuesday
- New layout aims for about 440 car spaces and ~50 motorcycle spaces; final count may vary after painting
- Standard bays widened from ~2.20m to ~2.50m; 18 motorhome spaces removed and relocated to Can Rodes
- One‑way circulation, directional arrows and redistributed accessible bays to improve flow and access
Work to repaint and reorganise the Parc Central outdoor car park in Andorra la Vella began on Tuesday and the parish says the facility should be fully available again this weekend, with workers reopening zones progressively — possibly as soon as tomorrow. After the remodelling the lot is expected to offer about 440 spaces for cars and roughly 50 for motorcycles, though the parish cautions the final count could vary slightly once painting is complete.
The main change is wider bays: standard spaces have been increased from about 2.20 metres to 2.50 metres to improve manoeuvrability and reduce situations where technically free spaces cannot be used because adjacent vehicles are too close. “Cars are getting bigger,” councillor for Traffic and Parking Xavier Surana has said, explaining the rationale for the enlargement.
Eighteen motorhome spaces in the centre of the lot have been removed and those vehicles are being redirected to the Can Rodes area in Santa Coloma. The reclaimed area has been reallocated largely to cars, and several former car spaces have been converted into dedicated motorcycle zones to ease circulation. Before the works the site had about 540 places including motorhomes and motorcycles; the new layout yields fewer but more spacious spots.
The redesign also introduces new internal circulation patterns — one‑way lanes, directional arrows and lettered markings — intended to help drivers navigate and remember where they parked. Central areas that previously became unused “lost” space have been eliminated to improve capacity and traffic flow.
Accessible bays for people with reduced mobility have been redistributed across the car park so they sit closer to multiple entrances and exits instead of being clustered at one point. Additional lateral spaces have been marked for vulnerable users such as older people and pregnant women.
Officials say the combination of wider bays, clearer signage and revised circulation should cut down on drivers circling the lot looking for usable spots and make it easier to enter and exit vehicles. The parish notes that while smaller adjustments have been made in past years, this is the first comprehensive horizontal signage and layout renewal at the site in about a decade.
