Police to renew patrol fleet with updated Ford Kuga models
Eighteen worn Ford Kuga patrol cars will be replaced with an updated Kuga tranche; supplier aims to deliver in December though the force will renew.
Key Points
- Fleet renewal scheduled for January; supplier is trying to deliver vehicles in December.
- Police will continue using Ford Kuga models; 18 current units to be replaced.
- Many existing Kugas are high-mileage and near end of service life, with uneven wear.
- Same Andorran supplier as before received cars and is awaiting signwriting for delivery.
The police will renew their patrol car fleet in January, although the company that won the tender is trying to deliver the vehicles this December. The force will continue to be equipped with Ford Kuga models, as in recent years.
The Kuga has generally performed well, but many units have reached the final stage of their service life, some more worn than others. These are the vehicles that cover the most mileage across the country, are in near-constant use and are handled by many different drivers, which accelerates wear.
Eighteen Kuga vehicles currently in service will be replaced by the new version of the same model. The specification requested by the police is essentially the same as in the previous tender, although the new cars include certain improvements beyond aesthetic changes.
The leasing contract that governs fleet renewal is typically updated about every six years. The same Andorran company that supplied the previous tranche is the supplier again; it has received the cars in recent days and is awaiting vehicle signwriting before delivery. The police department expects to complete the changeover during the coming month.
