The RD66 departmental road, linking Perpignan to Puigcerdà and Andorra, will fully reopen this Friday, February 6, at 6pm with no traffic restrictions, according to the Pyrénées-Orientales department.
The route had been partially closed since a landslide struck near Thuès-Entre-Valls on January 23. The incident raised concerns over a prolonged disruption during peak winter season and the February school holidays.
Departmental teams, alongside French state services, SNCF Réseau, and contracted firms, worked continuously—including seven days a week—to secure the area and restore access. Their efforts included preemptive blasting of unstable rocks, installation of road protection devices, and reinforcement of the affected slope. Favorable weather and accelerated progress advanced the timeline significantly.
Initially, a partial reopening with alternating traffic and occasional closures was not expected before February 10, while full access had been scheduled for February 17. The complete restoration now allows two-way travel without limitations.
