Andorra Petrol Station Sees 5-10% Customer Surge Despite Sharp Fuel Price Rises

Customer numbers at the Pas de la Casa petrol station operated by Gasopas have increased by 5% to 10% compared to the same period last year, even as fuel prices have risen sharply in the area.

Jesús Llanas, president of Gasopas, told the Andorran News Agency that these figures represent averages. He pointed primarily to a higher volume of vehicles from France, where petrol prices have climbed more suddenly in recent weeks. Llanas added that tourist arrivals like these typically vary with weather conditions and the day of the week.

This revenue growth aligns with a significant local price increase. Data from Andorra's Energy and Climate Change Office shows unleaded 95 petrol rising from €1.375 per litre on 10 March—the country's lowest price then—to €1.554 today, now the highest nationwide. It still undercuts French prices at €1.985 per litre.

Llanas outlined the station's pricing approach, which relies on a weighted average of fuel already in stock rather than spot market rates. That cushioned the initial effects of global oil supply disruptions from recent international tensions, since earlier purchases were at lower costs.

"Fuel price rises happen more gradually because cheaper old stock is still being sold," he explained. "But drops are also delayed, as more expensive batches from before need to be used up first."

Operating just this one outlet, Gasopas feels market changes acutely, Llanas noted, since all purchases are tailored to that site alone. He dismissed any direct pricing impact from the recent reopening of France's RN20 road, apart from improved customer access.
