Andorra's Department of Statistics reports a tourism rebound, with sports and shopping leading motivations. Spanish border entries grew, offsetting French declines, while average overnight stays ticked up to 3.6 nights.

Key Points

  • Tourists up 14.7% to 449,753 (62.9% of total); day-trippers up 4.1% to 264,735
  • Spanish visitors +12.4%, others +30%, French -0.8%; vehicle entries +0.6%
  • Shopping (37.5%) and sports (37.4%) top motives; tourists favor sports (59.4%)
  • Year-to-date visitor days +3.3%, but Q1 vehicle traffic -8% to 899,065

Andorra welcomed 714,488 visitors in March, marking a 10.5% increase from the same month last year, according to figures released by the Department of Statistics. The rise was driven primarily by tourists, who numbered 449,753—a 14.7% gain and 62.9% of the total—while day-trippers totalled 264,735, up 4.1% and accounting for 37.1%.

Visitor origins showed clear divides. Those from Spain rose 12.4%, and arrivals from other countries surged 30%, offsetting a slight 0.8% dip among French visitors. This pattern echoed at the borders, where vehicle entries reached 320,836, a modest 0.6% increase overall. Entries from the Spanish border climbed 5.2%, but those from the French side fell 11.4%.

Shopping (37.5%) and sports (37.4%) ranked as the top reasons for visits. Among tourists, sports dominated at 59.4%, ahead of wellness, health, and thermal activities (11.4%). Day-trippers favoured shopping at 82.5%, with sports a distant second at 4.2%. Average stays for overnight visitors held at 3.6 nights, up slightly from 3.5 the previous year. Hotels captured 56.2% of nights, followed by tourist-use housing at 12%. Canillo led parish overnight stays with 357,791, trailed by Andorra la Vella and Encamp.

Over the past 12 months, total visitors edged down 0.5%, as a 12.4% tourist increase failed to fully counter a 10.3% drop in day-trippers. French visitors declined 11.8% in that period, against gains of 6.1% from Spain and 17% from elsewhere.

Year-to-date through March, visitor days—factoring in overnight averages—rose 3.3%. Vehicle traffic for the first quarter, however, fell 8% to 899,065, with French-side entries down 33% despite a small Spanish-side uptick.
