Experts at the 10th INNTEC forums in Andorra la Vella warned that innovations in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are outpacing corporate cybersecurity measures, creating gaps in protecting digital environments amid growing digitisation and hyperconnectivity.
The event, held this week, gathered technology professionals and companies to discuss digital transformation challenges, positioning cybersecurity as essential for business competitiveness. Discussions focused on how these technologies amplify vulnerabilities, particularly in interconnected systems involving multiple providers.
Yobany Barbosa, head of cybersecurity services at Var Group Andorra, explained during a roundtable that AI is reshaping defences and attacks alike. "We face automated cybersecurity measures, but also automated attacks," he said, noting that this dynamic complicates understanding system operations and decision criteria.
Hyperconnectivity expands the attack surface, especially in complex infrastructures with third-party involvement, Barbosa pointed out. He stressed integrating security from the initial design stages rather than as an afterthought, since early phases determine true control and protection capabilities.
Panels also scrutinised cloud migrations, often driven by efficiency but overlooking security and governance factors. Organisations should assess system architecture, access management, and exit strategies from providers, Barbosa advised.
Experts urged company leaders to treat cybersecurity as a strategic priority, not just a technical matter. Barbosa advocated risk-based governance, focusing on operational impacts, available resources, and organisational context. "You often can't do everything—prioritise based on needs, capabilities, and specific situations to ensure realistic, sustainable choices," he said. He added that clear identification of key assets and risks provides a roadmap for effective oversight.
AI's role has evolved to actively detect and manage threats, offering speed and cost benefits, but only with robust governance, transparency into its operations, data sources, and decision logic—especially in data-heavy, connected settings.
The forums underscored cybersecurity's importance for Andorran companies to maintain their edge in the digital economy.
