Andorra Electricity Demand Dips 0.2% in May 2026 Amid Gulf Conflict

Electricity demand in Andorra fell 0.2% in May 2026 to 40,084.0 MWh year-on-year, according to data from Estadística, as imports declined sharply while domestic production rose amid the Persian Gulf conflict.

Imports dropped 9.2% to 15,558.0 MWh for the month, with locally generated energy up 6.4%. Through the first five months of the year, total demand stood at 196,859.0 MWh, down 2.1%, comprising 132,813.0 MWh in imports (-7.9%) and 64,052.0 MWh from national output (+12.4%). Over the trailing 12 months, demand totalled 581,943.0 MWh (+0.9%), with 439,202.0 MWh imported (-0.9%) and 142,775.0 MWh produced locally (+7.0%).

In tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP), May demand reached 12,231.7 TEP, a 11.2% decrease. Electricity consumption rose 0.2%, but domestic fuel plunged 44.4%, gasoil for locomotion 6.8%, and petrol 2.5%, tied to the ongoing energy crisis stemming from the Gulf war. The January-May TEP total was 64,023.8 (-5.0%), with gasoil for locomotion down 7.7%, domestic fuel 5.5%, petrol 2.2%, and electricity 2.0%. The 12-month rolling TEP figure came in at 197,525.8 (-1.3%), buoyed by gains in petrol (+2.4%), domestic fuel (+1.9%), and electricity (+0.8%), though gasoil for locomotion fell 5.7%.

FEDA customers used 25,298.8 MWh in May (+0.7%), led by financial services (+6.0%) and distribution (+5.1%), despite an 11.5% drop in construction. Their five-month total was 124,475.9 MWh (-1.1%), with financial services up 5.5% and construction 2.2%, offset by a 14.4% decline at ski resorts. The 12-month FEDA total reached 370,813.4 MWh (+1.2%), driven by industry (+2.3%) and public administration (+1.8%), while ski resorts fell 15.6%.
