Sant Julià de Lòria Secures Government Funding for Hotel Pol Student Residence

Sant Julià de Lòria council has reached a funding agreement with the Andorran government to convert the former Hotel Pol into a student residence, with double rooms priced at around €700 per month.

Deputy Mayor Sofia Cortesao shared the news on Thursday during the opening of the Prat del Senzill playground. She highlighted the government's economic contribution as essential to overcoming the project's main challenge: ensuring bids produce rents aligned with students' financial realities. "We finally have a closed agreement with the government and its economic participation, which will make this project viable and allow room prices to be affordable for students," she said.

The deal provides partial central government funding for the site's rehabilitation—nearly equal to the council's share but not precisely 50-50. This will reduce the investment required from the future concessionaire for renovations and operations, directly lowering end-user costs. Exact terms will feature in the forthcoming tender documents and viability plan.

No operator has been chosen. Financing now secured, the council is launching the administrative process to solicit bids for the overhaul and management of the university housing.

Cortesao cited a University of Andorra study on students' socioeconomic profiles and payment capacity to support the €700 monthly rate for double rooms. She thanked the government for its role in what she called a national project, despite its location in Sant Julià, as it will serve the public university. "It was important to secure this economic contribution from the government... It's in Sant Julià but national, as the residence will serve the UdA," she noted.

The accord resolves previous financing concerns, generating clear satisfaction at the council and advancing the long-stalled initiative.
