Andorra Electricity Demand Rises 1.5% in June Amid Heatwave

Electricity demand in Andorra increased 1.5% in June to 38,186 MWh, with national production up 13.5% even as imports declined 6.6%, according to figures released yesterday by the Statistics Department.

Domestic generation rose year-on-year to 17,233 MWh, while imports totalled 20,956 MWh. For FEDA customers, consumption grew 2.7% to 24,808.4 MWh. Sectoral gains featured ski resorts at 14.5% and other services at 5.2%, though construction fell 10%. Distribution advanced 5%, financial services 4.3%, industry 2.9%, and hotels and restaurants 1.9%.

In the first half of the year, FEDA clients used 193,061.7 MWh, a 0.4% rise, driven by 6.2% growth in financial services and 3.2% in distribution, despite a 17.5% drop in ski resorts. National demand for the period reached 304,254 MWh, down 0.6% from the prior year, as output increased 11% to 89,557 MWh and imports decreased 4.7%. Over the past 12 months, total demand hit 582,513 MWh, up 0.8%, supported by 9.7% higher generation against 1.8% lower imports.

Seasonally adjusted data indicated a 0.1% national uptick in June, with FEDA clients at 0.4% growth.

Meanwhile, overall energy use in tonnes of oil equivalent dropped 13.8% to 12,032.9 TEP, with electricity the sole riser at 2.2%. Fuel oil for homes fell 25.8%, transport diesel 18.4%, and petrol 14.9%. First-half energy consumption was 97,458.8 TEP, down 5.6%, and the 12-month total stood at 195,605.2 TEP, a 2.8% decrease.
