Andorra Large Retail Sales Rise 4.8% in May on Non-Food Surge

Sales at Andorra's large retail outlets rose 4.8% in nominal terms in May compared to the previous year, propelled by an 11.8% increase in non-food products while food sales remained flat.

Statistics Department figures, published on Monday, showed real sales volume at constant prices for these outlets up 1.3% year-on-year. Food sales fell 2.9% in real terms, while other products climbed 7.8%. Month-on-month, nominal sales gained 0.3% from April on a seasonally unadjusted basis.

Employment in large retail increased 5.2% over the year but dipped 0.1% from April. Women accounted for 65.5% of the workforce, up 6.2% from last year, while men represented 34.5%, down 10%. Full-time roles comprised 91.3% of positions, with part-time at 8.7%.

In the broader retail sector, nominal sales advanced 9.2% year-on-year, largely due to a 42.4% jump in fuels. Food sales grew 1.2%, and other products declined 2.1%. Adjusted for inflation, overall growth moderated to 8%, with fuels up 8.1%, food down 1.8%, and other products off 8.7%. Compared to April, nominal sales rose 0.9%, driven by 6.1% growth in food and 2.1% in other products, offset by an 8.7% drop in fuels.

Sector-wide employment rose 1.5% from May 2025 but fell 4.6% from April. Women made up 62% of staff, with 85.9% in full-time jobs and 14.1% part-time.
