Canillo parish council has hired 60 seasonal workers this summer to strengthen municipal services during the peak tourist season, when visitor numbers and maintenance needs rise sharply.
Most hires are local residents, a policy the council says underscores its focus on parish employment and job creation for neighbours. Deputy consul Marc Casal stated that the initiative ensures "efficient summer management by reinforcing teams where activity increases most and prioritising nearby hires."
Tourism services received the largest allocations: 14 workers for Pont Tibetà—the most heavily staffed area—followed by 10 for the general tourism department, nine for mountain trails, and six for the gardens team. These roles support maintenance, visitor information, and public assistance amid high season crowds.
Social and educational areas also gained staff, including 14 monitors for the summer play scheme, four animators for the Punt Jove youth centre, and one additional professional for the nursery school.
The council noted that these additions will uphold service standards for residents and the thousands of summer visitors, while boosting the local labour market and offering professional experience, especially to young people.
