Escaldes-Engordany Approves €5,072 Grants for 23 Small Businesses

The Escaldes-Engordany parish council has awarded grants totaling €5,071.60 to 23 local shops under its 2026 support program for small businesses.

From 34 applications submitted, 23 met the requirements outlined in the ordinance approved by the council in February, while 11 were rejected for failing to comply. Launched last year and continued this year, the initiative aims to support essential local outlets that underpin the parish's economic and social fabric.

The grants offer a 25% discount on various taxes linked to commercial activities, including the registration tax for business, professional, and commercial operations; fees for commercial signage; public hygiene services; street lighting; and outdoor terraces.

To qualify, businesses needed to report turnover below €150,000 in 2025 for professional or business activities, or under €300,000 for purely commercial ones. They also had to be up to date on all payments owed to the council.

Council representatives stated that the program eases daily challenges for small traders and promotes broader economic activity within the parish's remit.
