The Escaldes-Engordany parish council has approved grants worth €5,071.60 for 23 small businesses as part of its 2026 support programme.
Out of 34 applications received, 23 qualified under the criteria set in the ordinance passed by the council in February, while the remaining 11 were turned down for not meeting requirements. The scheme, which began last year and has been extended, targets local shops and outlets vital to the parish's economy and community life.
The aid provides a 25% reduction on key local taxes tied to commercial operations, such as the registration tax for business, professional and commercial activities, charges for commercial signage, public hygiene services, street lighting, and outdoor terraces.
Eligibility required businesses to have posted turnover under €150,000 in 2025 for professional or business activities, or below €300,000 for strictly commercial ones. Applicants also needed to have all tax payments current with the council.
Council officials said the measure helps ease pressures on small traders and boosts parish-wide economic vitality within its scope.
