Andorra Delegation Visits BSC to Launch Supercomputing Programs for Businesses

A delegation from Andorra Recerca + Innovació (AR+I) visited the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) on Monday to strengthen their partnership and launch initial programs bringing supercomputing and advanced technologies to Andorran businesses.

Led by AR+I vice-president and Minister of the Presidency, Economy, Employment and Housing Conxita Marsol, alongside AR+I manager Marta Domènech, the group toured BSC facilities. They were joined by BSC director Mateo Valero and Catalan Councillor for Research and Universities Núria Monserrat.

The visit marked the renewal of a one-year-old alliance through a new contract, outlining actions under the DeepTech Program. This initiative aligns with Andorra's National Plan for Innovation and Economic Diversification and will run for the next four years across three main areas.

First, it focuses on building deep tech expertise by attracting specialised talent through a high-level fellowship model. This links incoming experts with BSC resources and real Andorran challenges, building on existing AR+I efforts like the Annexa't programme.

Second, it emphasises training and support, offering masterclasses, workshops and tailored guidance to introduce supercomputing, advanced data analysis, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to Andorran firms, startups and entrepreneurs.

Third, it targets deep tech transfer, turning these skills into practical projects, pilots and solutions. The Andorra Living Lab will play a key role in bridging advanced knowledge with local companies, institutions and mountain-environment challenges.

Marsol described the collaboration as part of the government's push for a more competitive, diversified and knowledge-driven economy, stressing that access to cutting-edge technologies will be vital for future challenges. Domènech highlighted how the deal positions AR+I as a bridge between research, business, administration and entrepreneurship, delivering new tools and opportunities to the business sector.

The day also featured technical meetings to plan programme rollout. The partnership aims to position Andorra as a hub for developing and testing high-complexity tech solutions.
