The Andorran government has approved €144,000 in funding for two industrial doctorate projects, strengthening ties between local companies and the University of Andorra (UdA) through applied research initiatives.
Economy, Employment and Housing Minister Conxita Marsol confirmed the decision after a Council of Ministers meeting. The programme enables Andorran firms to hire full-time researchers from the UdA to address company-specific innovation needs. Each project receives €72,000 over three years to co-finance the doctoral candidate's salary at the host firm and their UdA programme fees. The researchers' theses must connect directly to the company's research, development or innovation activities.
The projects align with at least one priority from the National Plan for Innovation and Economic Diversification: technology for life and health; sport and nature as an innovation lab; or sustainable construction. Andorra Recerca i Innovació (AR+I) will provide support to enhance knowledge transfer between academia and industry.
Marsol highlighted the initiative's role in the national plan, noting it will foster products, services and solutions that bolster Andorra's economic growth, competitiveness and opportunities.
Firms may submit applications via the government's electronic headquarters from 1 October to 20 November 2026, with resolutions anticipated by 30 April 2027. Prospective candidates must apply to the UdA doctoral programme by 1 November 2026 through the university's website.
