Andorra Unemployment Drops 18.3% to Yearly Low of 197 in August

Andorra's unemployment registrations dropped 18.3% in August to a yearly low of 197, while demandants en millora fell to 160, the Employment Service reports.

The service recorded 197 people seeking work at the end of August, down 7.5% from July's 213 and 44 fewer than the 241 in August 2025. Demandants en millora—those employed but seeking better positions—totaled 160, a 8.6% monthly decline from 175 and 14.4% below last year's 187. Demandants de serveis stood at 72, including one on medical leave exceeding six months, while those in employment rose by one to 71.

Job vacancies decreased to 1,337 listings, 19.8% fewer than July's 1,668 and 15.9% under August 2025's 1,589. Industry and construction made up 39% of openings, with services, hospitality, security, and sales at 23%.

The 40-59 age group led job seekers at 77 (39.1%), followed by 46 aged 26-39 and 28 over 59. Women totaled 99 and men 98, with Andorrans at 51.3% and Spaniards at 22.8%. Nearly 80% had been unemployed less than six months.

In August, the service facilitated five placements, with five more via temporary work programs and 40 finding jobs independently. Unemployment benefit recipients remained at 13, matching July but up from 12 in August 2025; eight were women, five men, and 69.2% Andorran nationals.

These figures align with the second-quarter Labour Force Survey, showing a 0.9% unemployment rate for ages 15-74—down 0.6 points from the previous quarter and stable year-over-year, equating to 535 jobless individuals. Employment for ages 15-64 climbed to 82.4%, covering about 54,220 workers, while inactivity for that group rose slightly to 16.8% (11,040 people).

Andorra's rate remains lower than neighbors: Spain at 9.9%, France at 7.9%, and EU-27 at 5.9%. The Department of Statistics released the survey data on Thursday.
