Sant Julià de Lòria to Finalize University Residence Deal at Former Hotel Pol

Authorities plan to repurpose the disused Hotel Pol into student housing via a local-national agreement. Business interest persists, supporting goals for sustainable development and positioning the parish as an innovation center.

Key Points

  • Cònsol Major Cerni Cairat expects MoU completion in days and viability plan for public consultation by year-end.
  • €1.5M allocated in 2027 budget signals government commitment to project.
  • Tender for site rehab and management set for next year with steady business interest from two firms.
  • Project aims to position parish as knowledge hub, with affordable €700/month double rooms.

Sant Julià de Lòria's Cònsol Major Cerni Cairat expects to complete the memorandum of understanding and convention for the university residence at the former Hotel Pol in the coming days.

Cairat shared this update during the 5th Jornada de l'Energia i Ciutats Sostenibles. He aims to release the project's economic viability plan for public consultation before the end of this year, paving the way for an administrative concession tender next year. That process will select the company to handle the site's rehabilitation and management.

He pointed to the 2027 draft budget's allocation of €1.5 million as a sign of firm government support. "We welcome this budgeted allocation, which shows the government's commitment is solid," Cairat said.

Business interest holds steady, with the two companies previously involved remaining in talks. No new firms have joined so far, though Cairat described the level of engagement as consistent.

The initiative forms part of efforts to establish Sant Julià de Lòria as a center for knowledge, development, and entrepreneurship. It aligns with projects like the CATSA initiative, run jointly by the parish and national government, and plans to grow the University of Andorra.

Cairat referenced remarks from Cònsol Menor Sofia Cortesao in June, who noted the government's financial contribution would lower costs for the future operator and keep room rates affordable—around €700 per month for a double room.
