Andorra's senior financial officials are strengthening international ties at the IMF's annual assembly in Bangkok, with discussions centered on public finance sustainability, financial stability, growth, and protecting vulnerable populations.
Secretary of State for International Financial Affairs Lorena Jordana and Andorran Financial Authority Director General David Cerqueda are heading the delegation. They participated in the Belgian-Netherlands IMF constituency meeting, which includes Andorra alongside Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria. The session provided a platform to coordinate on institutional priorities and major global economic challenges.
The Andorran representatives also conducted bilateral meetings with officials from Liechtenstein and San Marino to deepen institutional relations and share perspectives on common economic and financial issues. Their schedule features further contacts with finance ministries and central banks from constituency countries and the European Union, covering global economic pressures as well as Andorra's EU association agreement.
Jordana and Cerqueda are set to represent Andorra at the assembly's plenary session on Friday, against a backdrop of geopolitical and economic uncertainty, including energy tensions, inflationary pressures, and rising public debt financing costs. The IMF has highlighted the global economy's and financial markets' resilience to successive shocks, while warning that margins to absorb new disruptions are shrinking.
These assembly priorities align closely with Andorra's economic and financial policies, according to the government. They reflect the approach in the current parliamentary budget project, which balances fiscal rigor with social needs and growth potential.
The delegation's involvement continues Andorra's regular presence at IMF annual gatherings, enhancing dialogue with international financial bodies and European counterparts.
