Andorran Para-Alpine Skier Roger Puig Trials New Carbon Fibre Gear in Dutch Indoor Training

Roger Puig and his team are honing skills and equipment at Landgraaf's indoor snow facility. The new protective gear meets FIS standards and may serve as a model for other para-athletes ahead of the season opener.

Key Points

  • Roger Puig training in Landgraaf, Netherlands, to rebuild ski sensation and test setups for December races.
  • Trialling FIS-approved carbon fibre protection to replace shortened slalom pole, with slalom and multi-event versions.
  • Gear designed to fit hand, glove, and arm within regulations; hailed as 'best practice' by FIS.
  • Team heads to Wittenburg, Germany, next week after stable snow sessions in Landgraaf.

Andorran para-alpine skier Roger Puig is currently training at indoor facilities in Landgraaf, Netherlands, with his technical team to prepare for the upcoming season.

The sessions this week focus on rebuilding his ski sensation, honing technical elements, and testing competition setups before the first races in early December. A major update involves trialling a new carbon fibre protection piece, required this season to replace the shortened slalom pole Puig previously used. Designed to match his hand size—including the glove—and secured to his arm within regulatory limits, Puig has two versions: one tailored for slalom and another for other events.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) approved the item, describing it as a "best practice" during the process. The federation intends to present it to athletes in the same category from other countries as a model solution.

Landgraaf's stable indoor snow conditions enable precise equipment comparisons, unaffected by typical high-altitude weather changes. Puig and his team will move to Wittenburg, Germany, next week for additional indoor work to finalise technical details ahead of the international calendar.
