Andorra Hotels Forecast Strong December Occupancy Matching Last Year
Andorran hotels have booked 58% of rooms midway through December, expecting to match 2024 levels amid early snow and holiday boosts, despite past.
Key Points
- 58% rooms booked mid-December, nearing 60% of Dec 2024
- Bookings outperform last year due to early snow and holiday bridge
- High occupancy expected from Christmas; some spots remain
- EU EES delay to April has no impact; prior border checks cut 20-40% seasonal staff
Andorra's hotels are heading into the second half of December with positive occupancy forecasts closely matching last year's figures. With over half the month already passed, establishments have booked 58% of available places, nearing the 60% that closed out December 2024, according to Jordi París, president of the Andorran Hotel Association (UHA).
"With the second half still ahead, we expect to easily reach last year's levels," París said. He noted that booking trends have outperformed the previous season, boosted by early snowfall and strong performance over the national holiday bridge. "Not only did the bridge go well, but the overall pace of reservations has been better than last year," he added. From Christmas onward, many hotels anticipate very high occupancy, though some spots remain available.
The recent extension of the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) rollout to April has had no impact on staffing or bookings this season, París assured. The sector felt the effects earlier, when Spain announced it would advance border checks from February 2. "That's where we had the problem—we had to stop hiring people who already knew the country and their jobs," he explained.
This led to the loss of 20% to 40% of usual seasonal workers, a shortfall París warned could affect service quality this winter. Despite the setback, hiring and reservations have proceeded unaffected by the delay.
