Andorra's registered unemployed reached 225 at the end of January, up 13.6% from 198 in December but down 8.5% from 246 a year earlier, according to the latest Statistics Department figures.

Those seeking better jobs rose to 221, a 5.2% monthly increase from 210 and 12.2% above January 2024's 197. Job vacancies fell 12.4% to 1,512 from December's 1,727, and dipped 0.9% below the 1,526 available a year prior.

The Employment Service arranged 12 hires, none via temporary work schemes, while 45 others found roles independently. Reports also highlight 15 public-sector placements and 25 through job promotion initiatives, consistent with the overall total.

Ten individuals received unemployment benefits, up 11.1% from December but 23.1% below the 13 beneficiaries in January 2024.

Unemployed individuals aged 40-59 numbered 91 (40.4%), followed by 49 aged 26-39, 47 aged 18-25, 30 over 60, and eight under 18. Nationalities included 44% Andorran, 27.6% Spanish, 7.1% Portuguese, 4.4% French, and 16.9% other. Women comprised 54.2% of jobseekers and 60.6% of those pursuing upgrades.

Some 82.7% of active jobseekers had been out of work for less than six months, with 9.2% unemployed over a year and 90.1% in short-term unemployment. Top profiles were administrative staff, service workers, and unskilled laborers.
