Key Points
- Gym opens in ~2 weeks for clients available only 10pm-midnight or 5am, like hospitality workers.
- No overnight staff; wristband access with 'silent behaviour' rules on noise and lights.
- Central location with hybrid machines, changing rooms, personal training, and supplements.
- Plans expansion to La Massana and Escaldes-Engordany after initial investment.
Paulo Ferreira, a fitness instructor with experience at other sports centres in Andorra, is preparing to launch Bona Forma, a 24-hour gym in the Prada Ramon neighbourhood of Andorra la Vella. The facility is set to open in about two weeks, targeting people whose work schedules leave them with limited time for exercise.
Ferreira identified a gap in the market for those available only during unconventional hours, such as late nights or early mornings. "This space is dedicated to clients who can only come from 10pm to midnight or at 5am before work," he said, citing workers in hospitality and restaurants, parents juggling long shifts and childcare, or those on split schedules. The gym's central location in a busy residential and commercial area makes it convenient, avoiding long trips for users.
Unlike nearby competitors Duplex and UrbanGym, which do not operate around the clock, Bona Forma will remain open continuously. Another local centre, Bloc Cafè, stays shut for just three hours and draws crowds, suggesting demand exists. "There is this type of client—you'd be surprised. It's not a huge number, but they are there," Ferreira noted, emphasising the frustration of rushed workouts due to closing times.
No staff will be on site overnight. Instead, clients will use a wristband for access and sign a document committing to "silent behaviour" rules. These include no noisy equipment handling, music volume limits, and adjustable lighting to suit individual preferences. A TV will be available, along with sports supplements for purchase.
The medium-sized space features diverse and hybrid machines to maximise efficiency, plus changing rooms, bathrooms, and personal training services. Ferreira plans gradual expansion, eyeing sites in La Massana centre or upper Escaldes-Engordany, following a significant initial investment. He will manage daily operations with one employee.
