Canillo parish council approved its 2025 fiscal accounts on Wednesday, posting a surplus of €2.04 million from €23.4 million in revenues and €21.36 million in expenses. The parish maintains zero debt and holds €6.45 million in treasury funds.
Finance councillor Joan Antoni Rodríguez detailed the precise figures: €23,398,686 in revenues and €21,355,062 in expenses. He highlighted strong execution rates—95% of current revenues, 82% of current expenses, and 51.2% of authorised real investments at €7.76 million out of €12 million—indicating that 2025 projects are advancing steadily. Comú major Jordi Alcobé described the results as "very positive," especially in an atypical year marked by an 11-month suspension of building permits due to the urban plan. Construction taxes contributed just €1.5 million, under 5% of total revenues, underscoring limited reliance on such income. Alcobé also noted a €3 million current surplus from €15 million in revenues and €12 million in expenses, signalling financial autonomy.
Councillors approved two extraordinary credits: €700,000 for pipes along the main road through the village centre, integrated with ongoing road beautification works to support a future biomass-powered district heating network; and €200,000 for a giant mural at the Sella roundabout entrance by artist Samantha Bosque. The 2,100-square-metre artwork, proposed two years ago by the youth council and expanded to reflect Canillo's heritage—including livestock, mountain landscapes, cuisine, harlequins, and the Tibetan bridge—will start after Easter and finish before Christmas, complemented by a central tree.
The biomass plant, a key electoral promise, will be located at the former Pla camping site. It will initially heat public buildings, later extending to nearby private properties interested in joining. Cònsol menor Marc Casal explained that the council lacks trained staff, so a tender planned for the first half of 2026 will seek a company to build and operate the facility under concession. The parish will provide the site and clients, with terms set to control energy costs for public use and private connections. Officials aim for operation by the end of the current term, using local forest wood for sustainable fuel and diesel savings.
Other decisions included awarding €232,341 for Tarter sidewalk repairs, nearly €560,000 in grants to social and sports groups, a staff training regulation, purchase of the Roda Callissa plot at Cal Federico, and urban plan modification number 5 for clarifications and provisional construction alignments.
