Encamp Approves €2M Aid for Pas de la Casa Businesses Hit by Landslide
Council unanimously passes grants, tax relief, and free buses to counter RN20 road closure impacts on local merchants.
Key Points
- €1M in direct grants: up to €10,000 per business, max 25% of losses, applications from next Wednesday.
- €320K for tax/fee exemptions or reductions.
- €120K council share for free buses between L'Hospitalet and Pas de la Casa.
- Response to RN20 landslide severing access and crippling local commerce.
Encamp council has unanimously approved a €2 million aid package for businesses in Pas de la Casa, targeting those hardest hit by the recent landslide on the RN20 road.
The measures, passed during a meeting on Thursday afternoon, allocate just over €1 million in direct grants to merchants. Businesses can apply for these grants starting next Wednesday through the council offices. Each eligible business stands to receive up to €10,000, capped at no more than 25% of losses incurred due to the road closure. Losses will be calculated based on pre-tax business results.
An additional €320,000 will fund tax and fee exemptions or reductions, while €120,000 covers the council's share—split with the national government—of free bus transport for users between L'Hospitalet and Pas de la Casa.
The aid responds directly to disruptions from the landslide, which severed access along the RN20 and severely impacted local commerce in the high-altitude parish. Council officials emphasized the package's focus on swift relief for affected traders, with applications opening imminently to help mitigate ongoing financial strain.
