Andorra Launches culturapopular.ad Platform for Intangible Cultural Heritage

The Andorran Ministry of Culture, through the Ethnography Archive of the Cultural Heritage Department, has launched culturapopular.ad, a digital platform dedicated to documenting, promoting, and highlighting the country's intangible cultural heritage. Unveiled on Tuesday as part of the Culture Strategy 2030, the site at www.culturapopular.ad organises content across areas such as culinary arts, livestock traditions, plant uses, festive heritage, traditional theatre, legends, popular and traditional dances, and folk songs. Each section provides contextual details, categorised materials, and graphics to support exploration.

A key feature spotlights associations, groups, and individuals active in preserving and transmitting these traditions, detailing their roles and contributions. The portal also offers an annual calendar of major events, celebrations, and activities, illustrating the ongoing vitality of Andorra's popular culture.

Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell emphasised during the presentation that popular culture encompasses the knowledge, practices, traditions, celebrations, and artistic expressions transmitted across generations. She described it as an essential element of collective identity and a reflection of historical ties between people, land, environment, and society.

Isabel de la Parte, director of the Cultural Heritage Department, stated the platform aims to serve as a central reference for Andorra's diverse popular expressions while acknowledging the crucial efforts of people, entities, and groups in sustaining them. Developed in collaboration with relevant associations and stakeholders who shared expertise and materials, the site functions as an open, evolving resource. It will grow through ongoing updates, public submissions via a dedicated email, and further contributions. To mark the launch, the department released a promotional video.
