Escaldes-Engordany launches summer cultural programme with silent cinema debut

Escaldes-Engordany has unveiled its Activitats Culturals d’Estiu, a unified programme bringing together established cultural cycles under one banner to offer residents and visitors a broad, free lineup of events across public spaces this summer. Running through July, August and September, the initiative includes Dilluns de Dansa, Colors de Música, Espectacles Itinerants, Cultura Popular, the new Sabors d’Estiu, and Nits d’Estiu als Museus.

A key highlight is the debut of Cinema en Silenci at Plaça de l’Església, where audiences will watch films outdoors using wireless headphones for high-definition audio, delivering an immersive open-air experience. The programme also features a refreshed Nit del Silenci, with three DJs performing simultaneously in distinct styles, allowing attendees to switch channels via headphones. Local artist Quim Salvat will mark a decade of his career with a concert, tracing his start in 2016 at the Colours de Música cycle in the parish.

Dilluns de Dansa reaches its seventh edition, transforming Plaça Coprínceps and Plaça de l’Església into open-air stages every Monday in July for four dance performances spanning various styles. Sabors d’Estiu, now in its seventh year, introduces markets with artisanal goods, workshops, food areas and live sets by Andorran musicians. Returning favourites in Espectacles Itinerants include the ninth edition of Turistes i Banyistes and the fourth of De Pont a Pont, both using theatrical tours to showcase the parish’s history and heritage. Nits d’Estiu als Museus rounds out the schedule with guided tours, activities and talks at local museum facilities.

The Comú d’Escaldes-Engordany aims to boost visibility for its cultural offerings, animate public areas and highlight local heritage through this stable, inclusive programming. Full details are available on the parish website, www.e-e.ad.

FEDA Cultura’s summer nights series opens at Engolasters lake

Separately, FEDA Cultura’s Nits d’Estiu series kicks off this Saturday at Engolasters with a nocturnal walk along the Camí hidroelèctric, the first of ten events blending music, cinema, astronomy and theatre around the lake. Due to ongoing renovations at the MW Museu de l’Electricitat, all activities will take place near the water, including the remodelled Casa dels Guardes, offering fresh views of the area’s natural and industrial legacy, such as the operational lake dam.

The opening tour departs from the Casa dels Guardes, following the lakeside path. Coordinator Fran Alcázar noted strong demand: “We’re delighted as places are nearly sold out for the first event, which is crucial for launching the series.”

Upcoming highlights include a solar observation and talk on dying stars with galaxy viewing on 10 July; the Ensemble Musicantes concert from the FeMAP Festival de Música Antiga dels Pirineus on 18 July; and an aeronautics discussion with Moon and Venus observations on 24 July. August brings the documentary Ecos de Groenlàndia with director Nicolas Samsoen; the theatrical tour Dolça FHASA by Les Il·luminades; a Fermi paradox talk during a meteor shower; a second Camí hidroelèctric walk; and a family screening of Solan & Erin, missió a la Lluna by the lake in collaboration with Festival Ull Nu.
