Encamp's festa major will feature an expanded elderly tribute this year, honouring all parish residents aged 85 and over during the Sant Roc festivities.
The parish council has broadened the annual recognition event, which previously spotlighted the two eldest residents as godparents under the Festivals Commission. This inaugural edition, managed by the council, acknowledges the life journeys, community involvement, and contributions to Encamp's progress among everyone over 85. Invitations have gone out by letter, and those who missed them—due to address changes or other reasons—can confirm attendance by calling the elderly affairs department at 731 670.
Set for Sunday, 16 August at 10:30am in the Sala de Festes, the ceremony kicks off a yearly tradition. This year targets those over 85; next year it will cover ages 80 to 85, then shift annually to new 80-year-olds.
Elderly affairs councillor Sílvia Ramond described the festa major as a chance to reunite and salute those who have shaped Encamp's expansion.
The three-day festival, from 14 to 16 August, opens Friday with the Band The Marxa parade, Youth Dinner in Plaça dels Arínsols, and performances by Richy Vuelcom and Óscar Vega.
Saturday offers family activities including a fishing contest at Engolasters lake, bell ringing, Mare de Déu Mass, inflatables, Rally Sorpresa, a foam party, and youth beach volleyball. Evening acts feature Soulstorm and Els 40 On Tour with Laia Partida and Adrià Ortega.
Sunday includes a new Parc Mulla’t session, the elderly tribute, Sant Roc Mass, afternoon inflatables and foam party, and closes with Mari Baz DJ in Plaça de Sant Miquel.
Culture, Childhood and Youth councillor Joan Sans called it the parish's most cherished tradition, developed with the Festivals Commission and Culture Department to suit every generation.
The council is promoting its "Make the Festival a Safe Space for Everyone" initiative, urging respect, prevention efforts, and sensible drinking.
