Andorra Volunteer Platform Hits 195 Participants with 500 Actions in 2026

Andorra's volunteering exchange platform has reached 195 registered participants, including 22 new sign-ups in 2026, with nearly 500 volunteer actions completed this year and six more events scheduled before year-end.

Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell presented the updated figures on Thursday, describing Andorra as "a very solidary country" whose strengths in this area are often overlooked in international comparisons. Speaking in Andorra la Vella, she stressed that the growth reflects a national dedication to community involvement.

State Secretary for Youth and Sports Alain Cabanes highlighted the wide age range among participants, from a 14-year-old to an 87-year-old volunteer. This year, volunteers took part in 15 national events across cultural, social and sporting fields. Some 123 people mobilised for cultural activities, particularly around the Cirque du Soleil shows; 53 supported social initiatives; and 211 contributed to sports events.

Cabanes noted that volunteering extends beyond major events to meaningful projects such as Radars, with 13 sign-ups and six active volunteers; training for a green line suicide prevention hotline; and home care support, where around 20 people are registered and three are active. He praised these as giving "great meaning to the concept of volunteering." Recruitment efforts include talks in educational centres and the fourth Volunteering Fair, set for this Saturday (11:00-18:00) in Andorra la Vella's Plaça del Poble, featuring 23 entities to connect organisations with potential volunteers.

The government is advancing a new app, described by Bonell as "very advanced" and due for launch soon, to centralise volunteer management, entity registers and event calendars. This aligns with a new volunteering law currently before parliament, replacing the "obsolete" 2010 legislation. The updated framework introduces guarantees on equal treatment, data protection, safety and emotional support; duties for entities; rules for digital volunteering; provisions for minors and people with disabilities; and a National Volunteering Commission for coordination with sector groups.

Bonell said the law provides "a more modern, inclusive framework adapted to current needs, while preserving the values of solidarity, freedom and altruism." Authorities anticipate further programme developments.
