Sant Julià Triples Theatre Shows, Joins Andorra la Vella Children's Cycle

Sant Julià de Lòria has tripled its theatre offerings and joined Andorra la Vella's annual children's cycle for the first time in the 69th joint season, following renovations after a fire damaged the Centre Cultural i de Congressos Lauredià in November 2022.

The parishes presented the expanded programme on Wednesday, featuring more shows across venues including Auditori Claror and the new Auditori Rocafort in Sant Julià. Productions will increase from one per month to two, blending major Catalan names like Joan Pera, Jordi Boixaderas and Ramon Madaula with emerging local talent in formats ranging from large-scale drama to intimate works.

Teresa Areny, Sant Julià's culture councillor, said the goal is to rebuild audience enthusiasm for the shared seasons. She stressed the need to introduce diverse proposals beyond guaranteed crowd-pleasers to expand theatre experiences. Sant Julià will host nine adult shows this quarter, plus three children's productions as part of the new collaboration. Areny noted that early exposure to the arts will "cultivate tomorrow's audience". Laura Rogé, head of cultural promotion in Sant Julià, praised Andorra la Vella's established children's efforts and highlighted the jump to three shows monthly, requiring significant investment.

From Andorra la Vella, Minor Consellera Olalla Losada hailed the reunion as a chance to pool resources and form a cultural network between the parishes. The capital will stage three adult shows at Teatre Comunal—Goteborg by Jordi Casanovas on 8 October with Roger Coma and Maria Molins; Boja by Mariona Esplugues on 12 November; and Molière's L’Avar on 3 December in partnership with the French Embassy—plus three children's events.

The total budget ranges from €60,000 to €70,000 across both parishes, covering contracts, staff and logistics but excluding Els Pastorets, which has separate funding. Andorra la Vella has allocated about €24,000 for adult shows and €11,000 for children's programming. Sant Julià's season opens on 20 October at Auditori Rocafort with Qui va matar el meu pare starring Daphnis Valdés, followed by L’auca del senyor Pera on 22 October and others including Abrakadabra, Els bons, 22 caixes and Els Pastorets.
