Escaldes-Engordany Opens Applications for Can Noguer Urban Gardens

Escaldes-Engordany council has opened applications for its new Can Noguer urban gardens, located on an 883-square-metre plot previously handed over by MoraBanc to the local authority.

The initiative provides six individual plots for personal and family use, to be allocated by lottery. Interested residents can submit requests from Tuesday until 5 May, either in person at council offices or online via the Comú's website. Selected applicants will be contacted ahead of the draw, with keys handed out in mid-May.

Nestled in a natural setting with some slopes in the Can Noguer area, the site requires users to have sufficient mobility for comfortable access. It will remain open daily from 6am to 10pm.

Beyond the personal plots, shared spaces promote community ties, including a dedicated area for growing aromatic herbs plus communal tools and equipment that must be used responsibly. The gardens emphasise environmental standards, requiring organic methods without pesticides or chemicals, efficient water use, clean maintenance, and consideration for fellow users and the surroundings.

The project transforms the former bank property into a public asset, supporting urban farming, social interaction, healthier routines, and ecological responsibility.
