Comú d’Ordino Launches €900K Phase to Double Water Network Between Ordino and Sornàs

The Comú d’Ordino has launched the second phase of works to renew and duplicate the drinking water network between Ordino and Sornàs, with an investment exceeding €900,000.

The project began on Monday, 18 May, targeting the section from the roundabout in front of the church to the Sornàs roundabout. Crews will replace the existing pipe with two separate lines: one to carry water directly from mountain intakes to the Coma de Suquer reservoir, and the other to supply drinking water to buildings along the route.

This phase forms part of a broader modernisation plan for the parish’s hydraulic infrastructure, running progressively from 2025 to 2030 at an annual cost of around €800,000, for a total of nearly €4.8 million. The upgrades address an ageing network, mostly built in the 1980s, which has suffered increasing cracks, breaks and water losses due to urban growth and added connections. Future work will extend to Llorts, a key intake point for water from Sorteny, Rialb, Besalí and l’Angonella.

To limit disruption during peak visitor months and major events such as the Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB and the Nit de la Candela, officials postponed works on the stretch from the Ordino entrance roundabout to the church roundabout.

Traffic impacts include the temporary removal of five green-zone parking spaces and alternating passage controlled by traffic lights in the affected area.

The first phase, completed in 2025 between Coll d’Ordino and the village entrance roundabout, has already finished.
